Drain Cleaning in Springfield
A slow drain is an annoyance. A blocked one shuts down the kitchen or the only shower in the house until somebody fixes it. Summit Plumbing has cleared drains across Springfield, Riverton, Lakeside, and the surrounding towns since 1985, and most calls get same-day service.
We do more than punch a hole through the clog. Our plumbers find what caused it, clear the line completely, and tell you whether this was a one-time event or the first sign of a bigger problem. Ask about our $99 drain clearing special when you call, or check our current specials.
What Is Actually Clogging Your Drain
Kitchen lines plug with grease. It goes down as warm liquid, then congeals on the pipe walls a few feet past the trap. Every pour adds a layer until the opening is the width of a pencil and one pot of rice finishes the job.
Bathroom sinks and showers collect hair bound up with soap scum. The mat usually sits in the P-trap or just past it, and it rebuilds on a predictable schedule if the line never gets cleaned wall to wall.
Laundry drains clog with lint and detergent sludge, often where the standpipe ties into an older galvanized branch line that has rusted rough on the inside.
Main sewer lines are a different animal. Around here the usual culprit is tree roots working into the joints of old clay tile laterals, which is rooter territory.
Cable Machine or Jetter: Matching the Tool to the Clog
A cable machine (a drain snake) is the right call for most household clogs. It bores through the blockage, pulls back hair mats, and restores flow fast, usually within the hour.
The tradeoff: a cable clears a path, not the pipe. For grease-lined kitchen drains and sludge-packed laterals, hydro jetting scours the walls back to bare pipe, which is why a jetted line stays clear far longer. Our trucks carry both, and we’ll tell you plainly which one your line needs and why.
A Clog That Keeps Coming Back Is a Symptom
If the same drain blocks every few months, the clog isn’t the real problem. Something in the line is catching debris: a sagging section that holds water, a rough patch of corroded pipe, an offset joint, or roots. Clearing it again only resets the clock.
That’s when we recommend a sewer camera inspection. Twenty minutes with a camera shows exactly what the cable keeps hitting, and you can choose a permanent fix with the picture in front of you instead of paying for the same service call twice a year.
One note for utility rooms: water on the floor near the water heater isn’t always a drain problem. A leaking tank or a dripping relief valve looks the same at first glance, and that calls for water heater repair, not a drain machine.
